ethernet doesn't work on 6100/66

hi everybody (hope someone can hear me ;-) )

i've installed mklinux r1 on a powermac 6100/66 and everything works fine - everything except ethernet that is.
while booting, linux fails to bring up eth0. since i'm rather new to linux, i don't know where to search for the problem, so maybe you can help :-)
i'm using a farallon aaui-to-10baset adapter to connect the powermac to my local network, which uses dhcp from the dsl-router.
